Charles "Chuck" I. Eaton Sr., 73, Elkader, Iowa, died Monday, January 8, 2007, at his home following a long illness. He was born August 19, 1933, in Cresco. IA, to Harold and Eva (Frank) Eaton. Chuck graduated from Cresco High School.
He was united in marriage to Constance (Connie) J. Daily on April 3, 1955, in Cresco. Chuck spent four years in the United States Air Force at several locations around the world. He was discharged in August, 1955, and went to work for the Howard County Engineer's Office, in Cresco, where he worked for three years. Chuck went to Fargo, ND, for Auto Body Repair School. On February 1, 1959, Chuck and Connie moved to Elkader where he accepted a job with Beacon Auto Rebuilders fixing cars. On May 1, 1979, he opened his own body shop, Countryside Auto Rebuilders, where he worked until he retired in 2004. Over the years, he was a member of the Lemka-Stendel American Legion Post #106, Elkader Fire Department and Elkader Jaycees. He enjoyed go-cart racing, camping, taking the grandkids fishing and checking on the developments around town.
He is survived by his three children, Charles I. Eaton, Jr. and friend, Julie Wiedenmann, Lori (Monty) Burns, and Brett (Suann) Eaton, all of Elkader; seven grandchildren, Michelle and Michael Eaton, Chris, Kyle and Kendra Burns and Nathan and Danielle Eaton; his beloved dog, Tina; three sisters, Lovene Howland, Riceville, Alice Belle (Bud) Albertson, Iowa City, Maurine (Wally) Vreeman, Rochester, MN; brother, Harlan (Pat) Eaton, Jacksonville, Fl and brother-in-law, Wayne Ernst, Eldridge.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Constance (Connie); great-grandson, Lucas Charles Popenhagen and a sister, Norma Ernst.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be given to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, January 13, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Elkader. The Rev. Jim Klosterboer officiated. Burial followed in East Side Cemetery, Elkader, with military honors by Lemka-Stendel American Legion Post #106.
Casket Bearers were grandchildren, Michelle Eaton, Michael Eaton, Chris Burns, Kyle Burns, Kendra Burns, Nathan Eaton and Danielle Eaton. Honorary Bearers were Tom Daily, Dick Hansen, Wally Vreeman, Dean Forsythe, Wayne Ernst, Gerry Kramer, and Bud Albertson.
