HERMAN AMOS SCHURTZMAN

Herman Amos Schurtzman was born in Mineral Point, Wis, October 12th, 1858, and passed away at his home in Marquette December 30, 1926, after a brief illenss. The day he took sick was the day on which he would have observed the 40th anniversary of his marriage to Miss Agnes Scrogum, who preceded him but five months ago. Let us pray that in that spirit realm "where friend holds fellowship with friend" a reunion of happiness and peace may have taken place by the sudden taking away of this husband, father and friend.

The early years of Mr. Shurtzman's life were years devoid of that affectionate care and service which fathers and mothers delight to bestow on their children, for when quite young his father and mother passed away, and Herman Amos was left an orphan boy to make his way thru the world as best as he could. But this loss did not prevent him from making good, and by hard work and honest endeavor he proved to be a good business man, and until his death was interested in the family's interests and the community's welfare.

Two sons, Amos and Alvin remain to mourn the loss of a father and who in the short course of five months have left them but the memory of a father and a mother whose affection and hope had centered on them from childhood. Mr. Schurtzman leaves three brothers, Alfred, Otto and Charley and two sisters, Mary and Agusta, and many near relatives who pay their tribute to his memory.

Mr. Schurtzman had been a resident and business man in Marquette and vicinity for over 40 years, and his advice and presence will be greatly missed especially by old associates and friends of many years standing. But time is no respector of person when are summons comes none may say nay, but let the sparks of hope burn bright and pray that the end of this may be the beginning of the greater for

Hope springs eternal in the human breast
Man never is, but always to be blest,
The soul, uneasy, and confined from home
Rests and expatiates in a life to come."

Services were held from the residence in Marquette Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Richard Prescott officiating, and the interment was in McGregor cemetary by the side of his affectionate wife who preceded him by a few brief months.

The sympathy of the community goes out to the sons and relatives in this bereavement.
