Ralph Eugene Chase, 88, of Volga, died Thursday morning, December 21. 2006, at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union, following a long illness. He was born March 24, 1918, on the family farm in rural Volga, IA to Willis and Eliza (Meyer) Chase. He graduated from Volga High School in 1936.
Ralph farmed the home farm with his brother, Elmer and cared for his parents for many years. After his brother died he lived in Volga for a time, and would go on various bus trips. He entered the Elkader Care Center in June of 2005, and the Good Samaritan Center in October of this year. Ralph loved sports, especially baseball and the White Sox.
Survivors include his brother-in-law, Will Christen, Elgin and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings and their family, Bernice and George Nickels, Inez Christen, Lester and Dorothy Hermen Chase, Floyd and Beverly Whitford Chase, Elmer Chase and Rosella and James Hermen.
Memorial services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2006, at the Volga United Methodist Church in Volga, with Pastor Lisa Schroeder officiating. internment was at in Hillcrest Cemetery, Volga.
