Dahling, Daryl Dean 1939-2007

Daryl Dean Dahling, 67, of rural Strawberry Point, died Monday, February 19. 2007, at his home following a sudden illness. He was born June 12, 1939, near Littleport to William and Doris (Nading) Dahling. He graduated from Central High School in Elkader in 1957.

He was united in marriage to Fonda Fischer on June 4, 1960), at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. Three children were born to this union. Darv1 enjoyed sports, mule riding, playing softball, hunting, fishing, playing cards, spending tune at Sears Auto and being a good neighbor. He had a great love for farming and was a member of the Littleport Fire Department.

After their marriage, Daryl and Fonda farmed on the J.C. Costigan farm at St. Olaf. Then Daryl went to work for the Clayton County Highway Commission. Later, he worked at the Elkader Co-op.

In 1971, the couple bought the Earl Pust farm and that's where Daryl spent his remaining years. He also served on the school board and the Elkader Co-op Board.

Survivors include his wife, Fonda Dahling, Strawberry Point; his children, Michael (Kim) Dahling, Strawberry Point, Pamela (Dana) Dettbarn, Elkader and Chad Dahling; Strawberry Point; three grandchildren, Lynn (Lawrence) Fettkether, Alex Dahling, and Robyn Dahling; three great-grandchildren, Alexis and Sam Fettkether and Marisa Dahling; a sister, Orvelda (Ralph) French, Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Allan.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, February I. 2007, at Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport, with Rev. Paul Fohs officiating. Internment will be held at a later date. Visitation was held at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader.
