Leonard G. Thompson
Leonard G. Thompson passed away at St. Patrick Hospital on Thursday, November 15, 2001. He was born and raised on a dairy farm in Crawford County, Wis. He began working in a cheese factory near Ferryville, Wis., in March 1949. After taking a dairy course at the University of Wisconsin, he began working for Ronald Johnson at Mount Sterling Cheese Co. as a licensed cheese maker.
In 1952 he became manager of the Gunder Cheese Co-op in Gunder, Iowa. Leonard and his wife Mary managed the plant and made cheese from 1952 to 1955, he made many wonderful friends and fond memories.
In 1955 they moved back to Eastman, Wis., and managed the Eastman Creamery Co. with Ronald and Clyde Johnson. In September 1964 Leonard and his family moved to Missoula. He worked for Meadow Gold Dairy from 1965 until his retirement in August 1987.
Leonard was preceded in death by his wife Mary. During their 53 years of marriage they developed a strong friendship and loving relationship. They enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors.
Survivors include his mother, Unie Thompson Lysne; sons Terry, and wife Yurilo, and Gayle, and wife Mary, Thompson; grandsons Gary Thompson, Dan and wife Chrysanthie and B.J. and wife Sheri; granddaughter Tammy and husband Mike Reich, and six great-grandchildren.
