David Edward Torkelson

David Edward Alfred Torkelson, 50, of Monona, Iowa died Friday, January 16, 2004 in Monona, Iowa following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

David was born on August 21, 1953 in Postville, Iowa to Walter and Barbara (Byrd) Torkelson. He was baptized in Ossian on November 16, 1953 and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona on May 28, 1967. David graduated from MFL High School in 1971.

He married Beverly Meyer on May 4, 1979 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple resided in rural Castalia and later in Monona. He worked at the lumber yard in Monona and became owner in 1998. David loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Torkelson, Monona, five children, Anthony (Tammi) Meyer, Monona, Scott (Dawn) Torkelson, Anamosa, Mindy Torkelson (Scott Buchheit), Postville, Kristie Torkelson, Postville, Nicholas Torkelson, Monona; two sisters, Janet (Curt) Staff, Monona, Mary Ball, Monona; two aunts, Florence Schrandt, Ossian and Irene (Bob) Klisart, Ossian; one uncle, Michael (Maureen) Byrd of England and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Michael Torkelson; one sister, Barbara Jane Torkelson and a brother-in-law, Allen Ball.

Services were held Monday, January 19, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa with inurnment to be held at a later date. Pastor Allen Bidne officiated and Judy Walter was the organist.

Leonard Funeral home, Monona, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
