Irene Sophie Louise Klotzbach, 91, Monona, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa, following a brief illness. Irene had been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center since August 24, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 30, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, with The Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery, Monona. Visitation was held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, at the Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, and from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Friday.
Music was by: Joann Martins, organist, and Ronald Meyer, vocalist.
Irene was born on Oct. 31, 1915, in Wagner Township, Clayton County, Iowa, to Victor and Amanda (Kregel) Meyer. She was baptized on Dec. 5, 1915, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Irene attended country school and graduated from Monona High School in 1934.
Irene was united in marriage to Walter Klotzbach on May 31, 1946. Three children were born to this union. Walter died on Nov. 2, 2001. Irene worked at Rosenbergs Department Store in Monona. She was a Clayton County Homemaker where she helped the elderly with their needs in the home. Irene was head of Cradle Roll at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona where she also taught Sunday school. She enjoyed gardening, house plants, going for rides with her son, Don, and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her two sons, Stan (Leta) Klotzbach, Monona, and Don Klotzbach, Monona; one brother, Lavern (Imogene) Meyer, Monona; two grandchildren: Stan Klotzbach Jr., Cedar Rapids, Gina (Tom) Nankival, Madison, Wis.; three great-grandchildren: Isabelle Nankival, Madison, Wis., Cameryn Marie Klotzbach, Cedar Rapids; Sophia Nicole Klotzbach, Cedar Rapids; one step-great-grandson, Will Nankival, Cedar Rapids; a nephew, Garry Meyer, Monona and cousins and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one daughter, Karen Klotzbach, on May 19, 1949.
Casket bearers were Stan Klotzbach, Stan Klotzbach, Jr., Don Klotzbach, Tom Nankival, Daryl Schlein and Ken David, Honorary pallbearers were Garry Meyer, Julius Dettmann, Carlton Collins, Kathy Lange and Ellen Jones.
