Irene Catheryn Dorothy Kuthe, 100, Monona, Iowa, died Friday, April 6, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. The Rev. Allen Bidne officiated. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery, Monona.

Irene was born on Jan. 22, 1907, in rural Monona, to Louis and Ida (Roth) Henkes. She was baptized on May 10, 1907, by Rev. Haag. She attended Lamker Country School through the eighth grade. She was confirmed on Jan. 30, 1938, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, by Rev. Seifkes.

Irene was united in marriage to Harvey Kuthe on July 20, 1922, by Rev. O.A. Hillman at the Congregational Parsonage. Harvey died on May 7, 1984.

Irene was a homemaker and also helped out with the many chores on the farm. She loved spending time with her children and her many grandchildren of all ages. Irene had been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center, Posiville, since October of 2002.

Survivors include two daughters, Darlene (Keith) Kishman and Imogene (Harlin) Bentien, of Monona; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Gaylon Henkes, Galt, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers: Oscar, Albert, Clarence, Lester, Everette; two sisters, Mabel Schlitter and Edna Miller and one granddaughter in infancy.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 9, at the Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, and from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Casket bearers were Randy Grady, Chad White, Shanon White, Joie White. Shane Hass. Derek Bentien and Andy Bentien. Honorary bearers were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
