Carlton E. Witter 75 of McGregor, Iowa, died Tuesday Feb. 6, at Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis., following a battle with multiple myeloma.

A memorial service was at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at the Living Faith United Methodist Parish in Monona, Iowa, followed by a time of sharing and remembrance at the church hall. Services will be at a later date in Colorado.

Carlton was born Dec. 16. 1931 near Giard, Iowa, to Herman and Mae (Voegeding) Witter. He attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married June Vaverka on March 23, 1952 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

They farmed for a time before moving to the Boulder, Colo., area where Carlton worked for Mountain Bell and later Qwest until his retirement after 38 years. They moved to Giard in 1994.

Carlton enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling, playing golf, skiing, woodworking and had a beautiful tenor voice. He sang for many concerts in the Boulder area. He was a 30 year member of the Elk Club.

He is survived by his wife June; two children: Ann (Robert) Guillot of Niwot, Colo., David (Luana) Witter of Longmont, Colo.; son in law Bob Major of Boulder, Colo.; two grandchildren: Tasha Witter-Guillot, Matias Alex Guillot; three siblings: Mari Ann (LeRoy) Skaar of Masonville, Colo., Nancy (David) Kluesner of Ferryville, Wis., and Roger (Linda) Witter of McGregor, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and a daughter, Dawn Kathleen Major.

The Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home in McGregor assisted the family.
