Miehe, Patrick Henry 1934-2007

MIEHE, KELLEHER, DARCEY, BANKES

On June 6, 2007, Patrick Henry Miehe was reunited with his beloved wife, Dottie (Darcey) Miehe, his brother, Dan Miehe, and his parents, Elmer and Marie Miehe. Patrick courageously battled a rare cancer. He passed to our heavenly home in the arms of his loving daughter.

Patrick was born on December 5, 1934, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Elmer John and Marie (Kelleher) Meihe. The family moved to Elkader, Iowa in 1946.

Patrick graduated from St. Joseph High School, Elkader, on June 5, 1953. After graduation, Pat joined the United State Navy and was assigned to the USS Observer (MSO-461) mine sweeper, commissioned in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Observer was one of five oceangoing minesweepers deployed to the Mediterranean Sea. Patrick was honorable discharged from the United State Navy on August 5, 1957.

Patrick returned to New Orleans, Louisiana, to unite in marriage with his sweet southern bell, "Dotsy" Elsie Darcey, on September 15, 1957, at the Holy Name of Mary Church. Pat and Dot moved to Elkader, Iowa, where Patrick joined the Elkader John Deere Implement Company with his father and three brothers. The four Miehe brother latered built a new facility located on Highway 13 North.

Patrick loved his community. He servied two terms as mayor of Elkader with vision, dedication and hard work supported by many generous friends and business owners on several local projects. Pat was instrumental in moving historic "Table Rock" to the Elkader City Park to ensure future generations will remember the men and women who fought for our freedom.

Survivors include three children: Debbie (Allan) Bankes, Pensacola, FL; Michael Miehe, Pensacola, FL; Darren Miehe(Linda) Las Vegas,NV; two granddaughters, Tina Marie and Kelly Lee Miehe, Las Vegas, NV; brothers John Miehe (Vernelda), James Miehe(MaryJane)Elkader, IA; sister-in-law Sharon Miehe, Glendale, AZ; borther-in-law Donald Darcey (Yvonne), New Orleans, LA; and many nieces and nephews.

Leonard Funeral Home of Elkader is in charge of arrangements (www.leonardfuneralhome.com). Graveside memorial services will be held, Friday, June 15, 2007, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Elkader. The Rev. Paul R. Peters will officiate.
