George Topel

George Topel died Thursday, April 2, at Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse. He was born October 7, 1906 in rural Allamakee County to Charles and Mathilda Schlitter Topel. He was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical United Brethren Church. He received his education in rural Allamakee County Schools.

Jan. 28, 1942 George married Marjorie Molitor Walsh. They had 2 daughters. The couple farmed in the Monona area until retiring in 1963, They lived in Monona until moving to Waukon in January of 1982,

George was a member of Garden City United Methodist Church. He also was an avid gardener.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Marjorie, who died August 31, 1984, a grandson and 5 brothers, Dick, Charles, Herman, Theodore and Bert.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Donald (Sharon) Kouba of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Joseph (Delores) Kroack of Waukon; 2 step-sons, Irving and James Walsh, Waukon; 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer, Monona and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Klima, McGregor.

Services were held Saturday, April 4, 1:30 p.m. at Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery with Rev. Marion Bloodworth and Rev. O. Dean Shelly officiating.

Pallbearers were David Schlitter, Wilbur, Wayne and Don Topel, Milton Klima, Robert Tyler, Bill Peters, Ralph Welch and Jack Robinson.
