Funeral services for Mrs. Oscar Torkelson, 86, were held Saturday, Sept. 10, 1983 at 10:00 a.m. at the Norway Lutheran Church, St. Olaf. The Rev. Keith Klemm officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Norway Cemetery.

Nellie Mae Torkelson, daughter of Ole and Margaret (Baumeister) Olson, was born May 1, 1897, in Wagner Township, Clayton County. She passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 1983, at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville.

She attended the local rural school and was baptized and confirmed at the Norway Lutheran Church, St. Olaf, where she was a member.

The Torkelsons celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year. They were married February 17, 1917, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Clermont. Four children were born to this union.

They farmed two miles west of Farmersburg until 1945 when they moved to their present home in Farmersburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson, Greg Bente; two brothers, Millard and Arthur; and three sisters, Olivia, Maude and Mary.

Surviving are her husband Oscar; a son, Quentin, of Farmersburg; three daughters, Opal (Mrs. Millard Houg), of Farmersburg; Minerva (Mrs. Lloyd Leonard), of Sycamore, IL, and Iva (Mrs. Lee Klinkenberg), of McGregor; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lillie Trudo, of Luana and Bertha (Mrs. Richard Bigler) of Elkader.
