Walter Tietz

Services for Walter Tietz were Sept. 26 in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville. The Rev. Julius Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Walter Louis Tietz, son of William and Lena (Benjegerdes) Tietz, was born March 4, 1989 (sic) at Manly. He died Sept. 24, 1989 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah. He was baptized in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Manly and confirmed there on March 31, 1912. He attended the rural schools of Worth County, Manly.

On Sept. 12, 1928 he was married to Elsie Wilhelmina Martins at Luana. The had one son.

They farmed in the Luana and Frankville areas. In 1962 they moved to Frankville. In November of 1986, Walter became a resident of the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, who died June 6, 1986, 4 brothers: Robert, Christ, Alford and Bennie and 2 sister, Morgan, who died in infancy, and Marie.

He is survived by a son, Leonard of Decorah, 2 grandsons, Galen of Decorah and Randy of Marion; 3 brothers, John of Northwood, Richard of Manly, and Morris of Griswold; and 3 sisters, Emma Goddard of Mason City, Iona Hartman of Griswold and Helen of Grafton.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville since 1933. He had served on the rural school board of Frankville Township, and the Nordness Creamery Board, and had been the Frankville Township assessor for many years.

Pallbearers were Dennis Tietz, Darrell and Lyle Hartman, Robert Roffman, Gale and Donald Gordon.
