Funeral services for Hertha A. Thoma were held Wednesday, September 2, 1981 at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. The Reverend David R. Nelson officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Hertha Anna Thoma, daughter of John and Anna (Knodt) Ruckdaschel, was born December 24, 1905 in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She died August 31, 1981 at her rural home near Luana, Iowa.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, and was a lifelong member of that congregation. In 1923 she graduated from Postville High School. On January 8, 1925 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Thoma at Dubuque, Iowa. To this union three children were born. They farmed all their lives on the farm near Luana.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, John and Ernest, and three sisters, Flora, Esther and Lenora.

Surviving are a son, Robert of Luana; two daughters, Mrs. Menar (Judyth) Hahn of Anamosa, Iowa, and Mrs. L. Doyle (Margery) Stansberry of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and six grandchildren, Patricia Hahn, Houston, Texas, David Hahn, Fresno, California; Mary Hahn, Sandra Seger, Nancy Brown and Karen Andrews, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
