Vernon "Honey" Prouty
Vernon "Honey" Prouty, 79, of Waukon died Sunday, September 30, 2007 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 3 at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery, Rossville. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Vernon Owen "Honey" Prouty was born December 24, 1927 in Marquette, the son of Vern Allen and Katherine Rose (Carlson) Prouty. After attending the Marquette Schools, Honey began farming. He farmed at several places in Clayton County before retiring and moving to Waukon with his brother William "Babe" in 1982.
After moving to Waukon, he enjoyed working at Village Farm and Home for several years. Honey was an outdoor lover all of his life. He enjoyed hunting coon and deer and was always ready to go fishing. He was a baseball fan and loved to play cards with his family and friends. One of his favorite pastimes was to drive through the countryside running errands and visiting the neighboring towns.
Survivors include a nephew, Dewey (Lorraine) Prouty of Waukon; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie Olson; two brothers, Jim (Lauryne) and William "Babe" Prouty; two nieces, Debra Thornton and Cheryl Barker; and a nephew, Larry Olson.
Casketbearers are Jerry and Jake Sweeney, Dale Echard, Ralph Plein, Carlton Christianson, and Jim Howard.
