Leola Kurth

Leola Kurth, 79, of Monona died Sunday, September 2, 2007 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, WI, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 6 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. The Rev. Allen Bidne officiated. Inurnment was held Friday, September 7 at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Luana.

Pallbearers were Bruce Lenth, Loren Lenth, Brad Lenth, Gary Kurth, Curtis Kurth, Bill Herried, Jr., and Tom Herried.

Leola was born February 2, 1928 in rural Clayton County to Harry and Orpha (Lenth) Kuthe. She graduated from Monona High School.

Leola was united in marriage to Calvin Kurth February 8, 1946. Two children were born to this union. Leola and Calvin farmed for many years together and took great pride in what they accomplished. She loved taking care of all the animals, especially her cats. Leola was a wonderful cook and enjoyed watching birds and playing Scrabble.

Survivors include two sons, Gene Kurth of Monona and Randy (Sandi) Kurth of Owatonna, MN; three grandchildren, Kevin Kurth and Kristina Kurth of Florida, and Jeremy Kurth of Germany; two step-grandchildren, Mason (Stephanie) Powell of Owatonna, MN, Eric Powell of Florida; and two step-great-grandchildren, Corrie Powell and Chelsea Nelson.

Leola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Calvin September 27, 1998; and one sister, Irma Kurth.
