Garber - Ira Japen Feidt, son of John and Alice (Stone) Feidt was born in Mallory township, Clayton County on Jan. 6, 1897 being one of a family of 10 children.
He received religious instruction in St. Michael's church in Elkport, Ia. He reached the age of 52 yrs. 10 mo. and 21 days. He always lived on a farm 4 mi. Southeast of Garber until the recent years when he lived in Garber.
Ira served in the first world war and at the time of his death he was a member of the American Legion post of Colesburg, Ia.
On June 26, 1943 he was united in marriage to Malinda Thein in Dubuque. For the past 10 or 12 yrs. Ira was engaged in the lumber sawing busines in Garber. He had been under a doctor's care the past several years but recently had to refrain from any strenuous labor.
He passed away Sunday morning (Nov. 25, 1949) at his home in Garber. He is survived by his wife Malinda; one step-son Lavern, wife Edith and daughter Louise all of Garber. Five sisters, Dora Hansel of Manchester, Bertha Hansel of Guttenberg, Susie McDowell of Elkader, Alzina Hindall of Des Moines, Irene Beyer of Des Moines and two brothers Frank and Edmond both of Garber, as well as several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by both parents, one sister Katie Hansel, and one brother Louis Feidt.
