ERVIE DOUGLASS
A well-known McGregor native and one of the town’s oldest residents, Ervie Douglass, 92, died Monday, Dec 31, at the Great River Care Center here.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 10 a.m. in the Thornburg Funeral Home by the Rev. Karl E. Hansen, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Boardman, Orlando Fascher, Otto Fascher, Louis Goltz, Mike Kricke and Dave Bradley.
Mr. Douglass was born in McGregor Feb 17, 1887, the seventh of eight children of George and Julliette (Cartwright Watts) Douglass. He spent his entire life here except for brielf periods in Elkader and Strawberry Point.
He was born deformed, and led a difficult life. He wore odd clothing to handle problems of birth defects. He worked at a variety of odd jobs around town, and was a market vegetable gardener.
One sister, Ethel Beck of Dongola, Ill., and nieces and nephews survive.
