Postville, Iowa -
Albert William Handke was born the son of Oswald and Minnie (Lundt) Handke on February 11, 1918 in Guttenberg, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday September 18, 2007, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Albert graduated from the Garnavillo High School in 1936. He later entered the United States Army Air Corps in 1940 and served his country during WWII as a flight engineer on a B-29. He later received the American Defense Service Ribbon for his duties.

After his time in service Albert worked as a carpenter, truck driver, and warehouse man for many years in the Postville area where he made his home.

Albert enjoyed fishing in his free time. He was a student of flying but never actually received his license. He was an avid motorcyclist and made many trips to Sturgis with a group of friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are; one sister, Mabel Rantzow of Spokane, Wash.; one brother, Ed (Joan) Handke of Postville and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, Eleanor, Carolyn, Lydia, Deloras and Leona, and two brothers Larry and Monie.

Pall Bearers: Allen Handke, Edward Handke, Steven Handke, Virgil Handke, Benjamin Peterson, Carl Rantzow, Floyd Engler, James Eggers, Alan Mitchell

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 207 S. 1st, Guttenberg, IA, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, September 20, 2007 and one hour before service at church.

Funeral service will be at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, IA at 10:00 AM Friday, September 21, 2007, Rev. Harold McMillin officiating. Interment will be at Ceres Cemetery.
