On Monday evening, May 20, 1901, at 6 o'clock occurred the death of one of Guttenberg's old citizens, Mr. Lucas Schute. The deceased was born at Herbruck, Hanover, Germany, on April 10, 1820, and grew to manhood in his native land. He came to America on April 7, 1847, landing at New York, and for the next nine years he traveled all over this country, working in the gold fields of California in 1848 and 1849. He came to Guttenberg in 1856 and has resided here ever since. He was married in this city on June 1, 1863, to Miss Catherine Albers. He leaves to mourn his death his wife, his sons, Ben, Henry, Joe and Herman and one daughter Lizzie, besides a large number of other relatives and friends. The funeral takes place today (Thursday) at nine o'clock from St. Mary's church, Rev. Brinkman officiating interment taking place at the Catholic cemetary. The Press joins with the friends of the family in extending sympathy to them in their sad bereavement.
