Hall, Frank Linzey 1888-1918

BAILEY, HALL, ENO, HILL, MAY

A family by the name of Hall was found here last week Wednesday in destitute circumstances. There were the father, the mother, and three children. They had been here a little time and when discovered, were without fuel or food. The man was dead, had died in the night. Prompt relief steps were taken to care for the others and they were given food and other necessities. The father of the family was given a decent burial. It is stated they came here from Allamakee County but had resided here some years ago.

From: North Iowa Times, Nov. 28, 1918
Note: Frank Hall was buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in the O. H. Bailey plot. His wife was Myrtle Izeta Bailey, daughter of O.H. and Annie Eno Bailey. Annie died the day after Frank Hall (during the flu epidemic.) contributed by Jerry Hale IowaGob1 at juno.com

In an effort to find more about this family as a result of a query, I'm adding the information I found in the hope that it might fill in a blank or two for someone else. Although the article says there were 3 children when Frank died, according the the 1920 census there were probably 4, with another on the way. My theory is that Frank became sick and couldn't work. Others in the family could have also been sick due to the pandemic going on. Myrtle, being pregnant and with a bunch of kids was unable to do anything to help out. They may have already been living on the edge when Frank got sick. Sad affair all around.
