Funeral services for Mrs. Harlan Walch were held Thursday, December 11, 1997, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend T. M. Marks officiated. Special music was provided by soloist Ronald Meyer and organist Priscilla Miene. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Marilyn Louise (Hart) Walch, the daughter of Elmer Boody and Cora Mae (Richardson) Hart, was born October 16, 1944 in Peoples Hospital, Independence, Iowa. She died Sunday, December 7, 1997, as a result of a car-train accident not far from her home near Luana, Iowa. She had reached the age of 53 years, one month and 21 days.

She was baptized March 28, 1948, in the Presbyterian Church at Independence, Iowa and was confirmed March 26, 1958, in First Lutheran Church at Decorah, Iowa.

Marilyn was graduated from Jefferson High School at Independence, Iowa and Young's Beauty College at Waterloo, Iowa. Following graduation she was employed at Ann's Beauty Shop in Decorah, Iowa. Marilyn had also been employed at Madonna's Beauty Shop in Postville. For 10 years she had taken care of many children in her home. For the last three years Marilyn worked at Postville Co-op's "Pit Stop" on the west end of town.

On September 8, 1968 she was married to Harlan Dwayne Walch in First Lutheran Church at Decorah, Iowa. To this union three children were born.

Surviving are her husband, Harlan Walch; two sons, Darrin Walch and wife, Jodi of Postville and Todd Walch of Luana; a daughter, Lisa Walch, also of Luana; two grandchildren, Megan and Stacy Walch. Also surviving are one sister, Sharon and husband, Fred Bayliss, of Bellevue, NE; two brothers, Ronald Hart and wife, Joyce, of Santa Rosa, CA and Allan Hart and wife, Jane of Waterloo, IA and a sister-in-law, Carol Huffman of Yuma, AZ; other relatives and many friends and neighbors.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Roger Hart.

Marilyn was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and the Women of the ELCA.

The casket bearers were Ron Lenth, Kurt Miene, Brad Schutte, Tom Miene, Loren Walch and Arlyn Lenth.

TRAIN ACCIDENT KILLS LUANA WOMAN

Marilyn Walch, 53, of rural Luana, was killed Sunday afternoon in a car-train accident near her home in Clayton County.

Walch died when the car she was driving was struck by an Iowa-Minnesota Rail-links freight train, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The accident happened at 2:15 p.m. about five miles east of Postville. Walch was south bound when the car was struck by the eastbound train.

Services will be held for Marilyn Walch Thursday, December 11 at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. by the Rev. T. Marks. Visitation is Wed. from 2-9 p.m. at Schuttes in Postville. She is survived by her husband Harlan, her children, Darrin, Todd and Lisa and two grandchildren, Megan and Stacy Walch.
