Louis Prakel Dead

Sunday Louis Prakel passed away after an illness of several months with dropsy of the heart. He had been down to Spencer for some time and came home Thursday with the knowledge that there seemed no
relief for him. The funeral services were conducted from the Congregational church, Wednesday afternoon, by Rev. H. G. Koenig and were very largely attended by friends of the deceased. Mr. Prakel was a member of the Even. Lutheran church.

Louis Prakel was born in Boltenhagen, Germany, in 1842. He was married in 1864 to Fredricka Hoth. They came to Clayton county, Iowa, in 1867 and in 1882 settled on the homestead where they have resided since his loyal help mate preceded him to the other world last year. They were the parents of fifteen children, these ten still living: John and Henry, of this place; August, George amd Mrs. Minnie Hirchirt, of Wallace, North Dakota, Mrs. Lizzie Gates, of Hazelton, North Dakota, Mrs. Lena Hamelstrom, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Mrs. Bertha Williams, of Streeter, North Dakota, Mrs. Mattie Gates, of Canova and Mrs. Mary Sturdevant, of Epiphany.

Mr. Prakel was an upright man, his word was as good as his bond. He was very industrious, and might have accumulated quite a fortune had he not chosen rather to assist his children. It is understood he helped each of his four boys to a quarter section and also had something for his daughters. His chief pride and ambition in life was the children. He leaves the fine half section farm southwest of town. It seems to us many fail to reach the degree of attainment in life that Mr. Prakel reached.

The Herald extends its sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.
