Mrs. Louis Prakel
Last Friday morning Mrs. Louis Prakel's long illness came to a close and her spirit passed to the great beyond. She had been ill for a long time with spinal trouble and there had been no hope of recovery.
The funeral services were conducted by the deceased's pastor, Rev. H. G. Koenig, from the congregational church in Canova Sunday afternoon and internment made in the Canova cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by friends of the departed. Four daughters and sons were able to
be present at the funeral but the other children and two sisters and a brother visited her during the last illness.Freadricka Dora Hoth was born Nov. 27, 1842 at Pummer, Mussow, Germany. She was married to Louis Prakel in Germany May 7, 1865. They came to America in 1867 and settled in Clayton county, Iowa, and later lived four years in Chicasaw county. In 1882 they came to South Dakota and settled on the homestead from which Mrs. Prakel was taken to her grave. Fifteen children were born to the union of which there are ten living. John C., of Newcastle, Nebraska, August and George, of Wallace, North Dakota, Henry of Canova, Mrs. Conrad Herchert of Wallace, North Dakota, Mrs. Harvey Hamilstrum, Grand Forks, North Dakota, Mrs. John Gates, of Hazelton, North Dakota, Mrs. Hugh Williams, of Streeter, North Dakota, Mrs. Ernest Gates, of Canova, Mrs. Elmer Sturdevant, of Epiphany. There are 24 grandchildren.
Mrs. Prakel was a very ambitious, industrious woman, in fact her great energy probably shortened her life. She was a devoted wife and mother and a kind neighbor. The grief of her sons and daughters and their haste to get here when they learned of their mother's illness is a fine testimonial to her character and devotion. Early in life she united with the German Lutheran church and died in that faith.
The entire community unite in earnest sympathy to the sorrowing husband and children.
(she is the daughter of Frederich (Fritz) Hoth and Karoline (Lena) Mueller)
