Funeral services for Bernard Whittle were held Saturday, March 2, 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monona. Father Joseph O'Hara, Father John Moran and Father Donald Heineman officiated. Organist was Mrs. Kathryn Fritz, with special music by St. Patrick's Catholic Church Choir and soloist Mrs. Connie Halvorson. Burial was in St. Wencelaus Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of services.
Bernard Michael Whittle, son of Bernard and Odelia Fassbinder Whittle, was born Nov. 11, 1936 in Giard Township near Monona. He died Feb. 27, 1991 at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI following complications of a lifetime struggle with Rheumatoid Arthritis.
He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monona. He received his education in St. Patrick's Catholic School and Monona High School graduating in 1954. He attended Loras College and School of Telegraph in Minneapolis.
On Feb. 18, 1960 he married Shirley Louise Doerring at St Patrick's Catholic Church. The couple farmed near Luana until his health did not permit. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and trucked in the area.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Charter member of Case Heritage Club.
Preceding him in death were a great niece, Anna Turczynski, and his mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Doerring.
Surviving is his wife, Shirley, his parents, Bernard and Odelia Whittle, Monona, 2 sisters, Rose Mary (Mrs. Glenn Binns), Council Bluffs and Darlyn (Mrs. Don Griffith), Des Moines; one brother, Adelbert Whittle, Monona.
Pallbearers: Larry Whittle, Doug Whittle, Mark Turezynski, Bruce Whittle, Chad Davis, Al Berns and Dan Pixler.
Honorary pallbearers: Mr. and Mrs. Romandus Gisleson, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Asleson, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ruckhaber, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Stumme, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Walz, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Levenhagen, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Ruckhaber, Gary Hoth and Mrs. Florence Schroeder.
