Wanda Wettleson

Services for Wanda Kay Wettleson, 67, were Thursday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. at the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder. The Rev. Marshall Hahn officiated. Organist was Deb Reierson. Special music was by the St. Olaf Parish Choir, Sunday Morning News, and Arthur Amundson.

Wanda Kay Wettleson, daughter of Lyle J. and Mildred, E. (Svendsen) Breitsprecher, was born July 13, 1937, at Decorah. She died Monday, Oct. 18, at her home, rural Postville, due to recurrent pancreatic cancer which she bravely fought the past four months.

As an infant, Wanda was baptized at Ossian Lutheran Church, and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia in 1951. She attended Decorah High School and graduated from Postville High School with the class of 1955. After high school she worked as a waitress at the Palm Restaurant in Postville. She moved to Minneapolis and worked at the IDS Building as a data entry operator over two years.

October 25, 1958 she married Robert Wayne Wettleson at Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia. They were involved in a farming business their entire lives. They enjoyed dancing, listening to dixieland music and vacationing. Robert died June 2, 1991.

Wanda enjoyed gathering with family and friends, sewing, quilting, knotting, singing, reading, bowling, decorating, and working in her yard. When she married Bob, she joined his church, Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder. Throughout her life her faith was very important to her. She taught her children and her grandchildren the importance of Christianity in their lives. She was a very willing church worker. At the Marion Lutheran Church she served on the board of education and taught Bible School and Sunday School. She loved to sing in the choir.

She held many positions for the Women of ELCA. Wanda tied and hemmed many quilts for Lutheran World Relief and other organizations. She served on the Marion Church Council as the first deaconness and was honored to serve the communion wine.

She currently was the Clayton County Food Shelf treasurer, a member of the Marion Lutheran Senior Choir, the Prairie Ag bowling team, and the Prosperous Ridge Club. She was a charter member of the Postville District Dollars for Scholars.

Survivors are her children, Kim of Rochester, MN, and Marcus (Kathy), of Postville; two grandchildren; her mother, Mildred Breitsprecher, Ossian; five siblings, JoAnn (Darrell) Ott, Ossian, Lee Breitsprecher, Waite Park, Minn., David (Pamela) Breitsprecher, Gary (Marilyn) Breitsprecher, Mary Ellen (Herbert) Hageman, all of Ossian; a brother-in-law, Roger (Carol) Wettleson, Postville, and a sister-in-law, Lois (Ray) Schnuelle, Castalia.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wayne Wettleson, her father, Lyle Breitsprecher, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert B. and Mary Wettleson, sister-in-law, Mary Ann Anderson.

Casket bearers were Grant Breitsprecher, Shawn Breitsprecher, Steven Breitsprecher, Christopher Hageman, Randy Schnuelle, Jeff Wettleson. Burial was in the church cemetery. Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service, Postville was in charge of arrangements.
