Julia Wettleson Killed In 1-Car Accident Monday

Julia Wettleson, 63, Route 1, Elgin, was dead on arrival at the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville Monday afternoon following a one-car accident south of Luana.

Miss Wettleson, driving a 1965 Chevelle, was traveling on a gravel road three miles south of Luana. As she approached a T intersection on the east-west road, she failed to stop and drove into the south embankment of the road.

Miss Wettleson attempted to stop the car as skid marks indicated she had braked for 200 feet. The road was wet and slushy but was not slippery. The accident took place about 4:45 p.m. at dusk.

The car was a total loss, according to highway Patrolman Howard Bell, who investigated. The Schutte Ambulance Service brought her to Community Memorial Hospital here [Postville] but she was dead on arrival.

Funeral services for Miss Wettleson will be held at Marion Lutheran Church, Thursday, December 8, at 1:30 p.m.
