Arthur Wagner Funeral Held
Funeral services for Arthur Adam Wagner, 60, of Farmersburg, were held Saturday afternoon, May 22, 1965, at 2 o'clock at St. John Lutheran church at Farmersburg with Rev. R. H. Steege officiating.
The body lay in state at the church from 1 o'clock until the time of the services. Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery at Monona.
Mr. Wagner had been under a doctor's care for some time and had been in failing health since February. He suffered a stroke Sunday, May 16, while visiting at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Roy Klingman, at Volga, and was taken to the Elkader hospital where he died Wednesday noon, May 19, 1965.
He was born the son of Adam and Christina, nee Leupold, Wagner, Dec. 20, 1904, in Weissenstadt, Germany, where he was baptized and attended both public and religious school. He became a communicant member of the Lutheran church through confirmation, April 17, 1918.
He came to the United States in Dec. 1924, and came directly to the Monona community where he worked as a farm hand.
On July 14, 1927, he was married to Lucille Bruns at Guttenberg and the couple moved to Giard where Mr. Wagner helped his father-in-law in a saw mill. Later they moved to Farmersburg where he was employed in a cheese factory and as Janitor of the Farmersburg Public school. Since 1948 he has worked as a brick layer and mason, belonging to the Bricklayers Local No. 1 at LaCrosse, Wis.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two children, Karl and Jean, who died in infancy, and one grandchild.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Roger of Dubuque, Donald of Farmersburg, and David at home; four daughters, Mrs. Lee Roy (Delores) Klingman of Volga, Mrs. Lloyd (JoAnn) Scherf of St. Olaf, Mrs. Jerome (Elaine) Schultz of Luana, and Mrs. Myron (Mary Lou) Ihde of Monona; one brother Karl of Germany; one niece in Germany, and 15 grandchildren.
Music at the services was provided by the church choir. Mrs. R. H. Steege was the organist.
Mrs. Glen Walters and Alice Reardon were flower girls.
Pallbearers were: Fritzie Mueller, Gus Lenth, Harold Kiple, Glen Walters, Arthur Wilker and Norman Sedlmayr.
