Funeral services for Amanda Walter were held Monday, Feb. 10, 1986, at 11:30 a.m. at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, Iowa, with Rev. Gene Becker officiating. Pallbearers were Gene Walter, Ed. J. Walter, Leon Hoth, Timothy Walter, Eric Johanningmeier, and Joe Johanningmeier. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery.
Amanda M. Walter was born August 12, 1888 at rural Farmersburg, Iowa, the daughter of William and Sophia (Buckman) Koth. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Clayton Center, Iowa. She lived in a rural setting along with 2 brothers and 2 sisters, where they received their education in the rural school. On Jan. 30, 1907 she was united in marriage to Joseph Walter. To this union 2 sons were born. They lived on his home farm. She had said that "I was born a farmer and have always been healthy, so often took a man's place". She thought education was very important so was pleased that her sons received a good education. She was very proud of her sons, 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
Preceding in death were her parents: her husband, Joseph, on October 14, 1959; 2 brothers, Ben and Al and 2 sisters, Mrs. George (Effie) Henkes, Mrs. Thomas (Lottie) Cormick.
Surviving are her sons, Lester, his wife, Louise of Elkader and Kenneth and his wife LaVonne of Mesa, Arizona; 6 grandchildren; __ great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren; a [and the rest is gone.]
