Mrs. Anna Kalke daughter of Joachim and Dorothea (Hoth) Mahnke, was born May 27, 1870, in Read Township, Clayton County, Iowa, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Hulda) Baade, near Elkader, Thursday January 15, 1959, of apoplexy. Mrs. Kalke had been in failing health for the past five years and critically ill for the past two weeks.

She was baptized shortly after birth by the Rev. F. W. Seifert and confirmed by him March 18, 1883, at the Zion Lutheran Church.

After her husband's death in 1932, Mrs. Kalke continued to live alone on this farm until 1954, when she was no longer able to care for herself. From then on she made her home with some of her daughters.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, and its Ladies Aid.

Mrs. Kalke was the last member of her immediate family, preceded her in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother, two infant daughters, Hattie and Emma, one grandson killed in action during World War II, and six great grandchildren.
