Edwin Hoth
Funeral services for Edwin Ernest Hoth, 75 retired farmer, were held at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center Cemetery, The Rev, John H, Zerhusen, pastor oficiated.
Hoth died at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, on Tuesday, November 2, 1976. He had entered the hospital on September 27 and submitted to lung surgery. Complications followed the surgery to cause his death.
At the funeral service Inter George Wirsing read the scripture lesson. Pasor Zerhusen based the sermon on Romans 8:23, "The redemption of our bodies."
The Rev. Ted Newton, of Elkader, sang two songs, " Just as I am" and " God will take care of you.", during the burial service. He was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Ruth Moon. Mrs. John Zerhusen accompanied the congregation at the organ during the liturgy.
A son of John and Elsie Meyer Hoth, Edwin was born on a Boardman Township farm on November 8, 1900. He attended the rural school of his community. He was baptised at Zion Lutheran Church on June 9, 1901, by Rev. F.W. Seifert and confirmed there on March 28, 1915 by Rev. F. Athenstaed.
On September 25, 1923, he was married to Viola Schloetzer at Dubuque. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary in September 1973.
After his mariage Edwin and Viola farmed on the parental farm in Boardman Township until 1973 when they retired and moved to Elkader.
Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Harold, Farmersburg, Harry, Garber, Dwayne Elkader, John, Garnavillo, two daughters, Mrs. Lorenz (LuNida) Landt, Luana, and Mrs. Donald (Ivanelle) Henning, Strawberry Point; 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him were four brothers, Arthur, Emil, Elmer and Willis; and four sisters; Mrs. Albert (Hilma Ella) Brietsprecher, Mrs. Henry (Mahala) Radloff, Sophie, a child and Mrs. Henry (Tena) Glawe.
During his active days he had served as a member of his church council.
Pallbearers: Harry Hoth Jr., Douglas Hoth, Dennis Landt, Bill Hoth, Ronald Henning, and Robert Hoth.
