Rosalyn Anna Marie Smith

Funeral services for Rosalyn Anna Marie Smith were conducted by Rev. Brian Burchfield at Peace United Church of Christ on Wednesday, Dec. 26. Burial was at Farmersburg. Pallbearers were Gary French, Ronnie Bahls, Allen Engelhardt, Gus Lutz, Lester Lutz and Jerry Schrandt.

Rosalyn Anna Marie Smith, the daughter of the late Gustav and Minnie Sabbann, was born on December 21, 1911 in Clayton County and died on December 24, 1979 at her family home in Elkader, having reached the age of 68 years.

Soon after her birth, she moved with her parents to the home she was living in at the time of her death. Here she was raised and educated, graduating from the Elkader High School in 1930. After high school she taught grade school for five years near Garnavillo. On November 30, 1935, she was united in marriage to Clyde Smith at Peace United Church of Christ. Together they made their home on a farm near Elkader. She enjoyed caring for her daughter, Marjorie, and life on the farm. Her hobby was oil painting. This past fall she and her husband moved to Elkader to her old family home.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother in infancy. She is survived by her husband, Clyde; one daughter, Mrs. Russell (Marjorie) Rock, Jesup; one granddaughter, Ann Marie; and one sister, Mrs. Ed (Dolores) Burlingame, Prairie du Chien, Wis.

THANK YOU
We wish to express our sincere gratitude to all relatives, friends, and neighbors who helped us at our time of need. Thank you for your concern.

The family of Rosalyn Smith.

(This was in a family scrapbook: Rosalyn was my Grandma: her middle name came from her grandmother, Anna Marie Sabbann, then it was passed on to me with a slight change. Grandma was quite good at painting and had wanted to go to art school, but sadly the depression struck and made that impossible.)
