Harland "Hap" Kutzbach

May 31, 1926 - September 24, 2006

Farmersburg, IA

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. September 26, 2006 at Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, IA, and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. September 27, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, IA.

Interment: September 27, 2006 at Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg, IA.

Harland "Hap" Frederick Kutzbach, 80, of Farmersburg passed away Sunday, September 24, 2006, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

"Hap" was born on May 31, 1926, to Henry and Elsie (Schlitter) Kutzbach at the family homestead near Farmersburg. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, in Farmersburg and remained a faithful and active member his entire life. He served on the church council as a funeral usher and a key holder for many years. He attended Farmersburg Community School.

He was united in marriage to Shirley Moon on June 4, 1946. Three children were born to them, Karen (Wayne) Miene, Monona, Keith (Dixie) Kutzbach, Farmersburg and Kathy (Jim Wagner) Kutzbach, Farmersburg.

Hap farmed the family homestead for twenty five years, drove an LP gas route for Clayton County Farm Service and Elkader Co-Op for twenty five years, was grounds keeper and "special needs" bus driver for MFL-MarMac School for ten years.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Shirley; three children, Karen (Wayne) Miene, Monona, Keith (Dixie) Kutzbach, Farmersburg, Kathy (Jim Wagner) Kutzbach, Farmersburg; his beloved grandchildren, Tom (Jacque) Miene, Wilton, Trent (Melissa) Miene, Farmersburg, Trace (Sherri) Miene, Monona, Stacie (Christopher) Bauerle, Murfreesboro, TN, Dr. Beth Kutzbach, St. Paul, MN, Jill (Dr. Julian) Sanchez, Bettendorf; he was also delighted to know eight great-grandchildren, Steph Miene, Cedar Falls, Ashley Miene, Wilton, Autumn, Elizabeth and Esben Miene, Farmersburg, Kale and Landyn Miene, Monona and Joshua Bauerle, Murfreesboro, TN; one sister, Lavon Kregel, Postville; two brothers-in-law, Dwayne (Inez) Moon, Luana, Vernice (Bev) Moon, Monona; one sister-in-law, Darlene Moon, Monona, and many relatives and friends.

Hap was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Ernie and Bertha Moon; two brothers-in-law, Gordon Kregel and Don Moon; two sisters-in-law, Viola Brown and Ethel Miller.

Harland "Hap" Frederick Kutzbach, of Farmersburg, passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. He was 80.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 27, at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. The Rev. Bruce Hanson officiated. Organist was Priscilla Miene, and soloist was Stacie Bauerle. Interment was held at Farmersburg - Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg. Casket bearers were Hap's grandchildren: Tom Miene, Trent Miene, Trace Miene, Stacie Bauerle, Dr. Beth Kutzbach, and Jill Sanchez. Arrangements were made by Leonard Funeral Home, Monona.
