Visitation: 4 to 8:00 p.m. September 26, 2006 at Leonard Funeral Home - Elkader, IA and after 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. September 27, 2006 at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, IA.

Interment: 10:30 a.m. Inurnment September 28, 2006 at East Side Cemetery, Elkader, IA.

Robert Allen Nesteby, 55, of Elkader, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2006, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a tough battle with a brief illness. Bob was born on July 19, 1951, in Oelwein to Gerald and Dorothy (Gamm) Nesteby. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Volga on October 7, 1951, and was confirmed on April 11, 1965, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. He graduated from Central Community High School in 1969. He earned his Associate of Arts degree from Waldorf College in 1971, and his Bachelor of Science from Upper Iowa University in 1973.

He was united in marriage to Rose Katherine “Kathy” Bink in 1972. They made their home in Elkader where Bob started his career with Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company (now Northwestern Mutual Financial Network). They had two children, Michael and Alison. Bob and Kathy were divorced in 1991.

Bob remained with Northwestern Mutual for the remainder of his life. He celebrated his 30th anniversary with the company this year. He loved golfing, at which he excelled, spending time with his children and granddaughter, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed golfing with his son, and attending his daughter’s softball games. Bob also enjoyed traveling with his many friends. He was a loving father, son and grandfather who was always willing to lend a helping hand when a friend or family member needed him.

Bob will be sadly missed by his family and friends, but will be kept in our memories with an annual memorial golf tournament held in his honor at the Elkader Golf and County Club.

Survivors who will keep Bob’s memory alive include his parents, Gerald and Dorothy Nesteby of Elkader; his two children, Michael (Melanie) Nesteby of Coggon and Alison Nesteby of Manchester; one granddaughter, Alexis, of Coggon; a brother, Gary (Judy) Nesteby of Marion; nieces and nephews; a special friend Kathy Schultz of Elkader and many, many friends.
