Miss Helen Matthews, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Matthews of Strawberry Point, and Jack Frye, son of Mrs. Marie Frye of Iowa City, exchanged marriage vows Saturday, June 18. The Rev. B. H. Shaw read the double ring ceremony at 4:00 p.m. in the Congregational church.
Attendants were Mrs. James Gruenwald of Marion and Harvey Hough of North Tonawanda, N.Y. Jack Mills of Ames, Robert Stark of Chicago, and James Knoepfler of Charles City served as ushers.
A large number of guests attended a reception at the home of the bride's parents immediately following the ceremony. The three-tiered wedding cake was cut and served by the bride's sister, Mrs. Robert Stark of Chicago.
After graduation from Strawberry Point high school the bride received her B.A. degree from Grinnell college, her M.A. degree at the University of Iowa, and served two years in the WAVES. More recently she was physical education director in the Newton and Clinton high schools. The bridegroom graduated from the Sioux City high school, received his B.A. degree at Grinnell college, and his J.D. degree at the University of Iowa. He served three years in the Army. At present he is a member of the law firm of Knoepfler and Frye at Charles City.
The couple drove to Hachensack, Minn., on a wedding trip. Upon their return they will establish their home in Charles City.
