The owner of the Walter mill was James Soloman Walter. He was a Civil War veteran born in Ohio. His mill burned between 1882 and 1885. He did not rebuild, but packed up and moved to Flathead County, Montana (about 1891)where he worked at a flour and saw mill in Creston. He died there in 1909. He is related by marriage to a number of Clayton/Delaware county families including the Radabah's and Starr's.
