Last Will and Testament of John Hagen
I, John Hagen of the Township of Cox Creek in the county of Clayton and State of Iowa of the age of Seventy nine years and being of sound mind do make publish, and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner following, that is to say,
1. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mathilda Hagen the sum of $25.00 in cash and the one fourth of all the property that I may die seized of, after my funeral expense and just debts be paid.
2. I give unto my daughter Emelie Koester the one fourth of all the property I own at my death.
3. I give and bequeath unto my Grand daughter Katie Schmitz the one fourth of all the property that I may own at the time of my death.
4. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Verna L. Will the one fourth of all the property that I may own at the time of my death.
5. And it is my further will that the amount of certain notes which I hold against my daughter Mathilda Hagen viz: One for $400.00 dated Nov. 1, 1891 due in five therefrom, One for $100, dated July 19, 1892 due in one year therefrom and one for $50.00 dated Nov. 15, 1900 due in six months thereafter all drawing 6 per cent interest, shall be deducted from the said share of my daughter Mathilda Hagen and that the amount of a certain note which I hold against my daughter Verna L. Will and her husband L. F. Will for the sum of ($2822.00) Two thousand eight hundred and twenty two dollars bearing interest at six per cent dated Oct 1st, 1896 due in five years thereafter shall be deducted from the said share of my daughter Verna L. Will.
6. I desire that all my household furniture that I may own at my death be divided equally among the four named in my will viz. Mathilda Hagen, Amelia [sic] Koester, Katie Schmitz and Verna L. Hill.
7. And further I hereby appoint my son in law Theodore Koester residing at Mederville Iowa as executor of this my last will and that he act without giving Bonds.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 22 day of March 1901

The above instrument was at the date thereof signed and declared by the said John Hagen as and for his last will and testament in presence of us, who at this request and in his presence have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.

Clayton CountyI, Dan Costigan, Clerk of the District Court in and for said county, do hereby certify that on this day at the April Term, A. D. 1902, of said Court, the Will and Instrument in writing hereunto annexed and bearing date on the 22 day of March 1901, was duly approved before and allowed by said Court as and for the last Will and Testament of the real and personal estate of John Hagen, late of said County, deceased, and was by said Court ordered to be recorded as such Will and Testament.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of said Court, at my office in Elkader, in said County this 8th day of April A. D. 1902.
