Mr. & Mrs. John Schmitt, 50th Aniv., 1943

SCHMITT, GEBHARDT, WIETHORN, SASS, RUSSELL, MARTING

Monona - Mr. and Mrs. John Schmitt, well-known retired farmers, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary at their home here Monday. A family dinner will be served at noon and open house will be held in the afternoon and evening.

Mr. Schmitt was born in Clayton County on July 18, 1866, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Schmitt. Mrs. Schmitt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Gebhardt, was born Jan. 28, 1871 in the same vicinity. They were married at the home of Mr. Schmitt's parents March 15, 1893 and they established their home on a farm east of Monona where they lived until recently, when they retired and moved to Monona.

The celebrants are the parents of five daughters: Mrs. George Wiethorn and Mrs. William Sass, both of Monona; Mrs. Bruce Russell of Postville, and Mrs. Harvey Marting and Mrs. Elmer Marting, both of Luana. They also have seven grandchildren. Both are active members of the Methodist Church.
