LLOYD, William John, supt. Western Union Telegraph Co.; born Buffalo, N.Y., June 21, 1853; son Thomas P. and Sarah (DuQuette) Lloyd; ed. pub. schools; married Chicago, Oct. 21, 1889, Mary Holligan; 2 children: Thomas D., Elizabeth M.
Began as messenger boy, 1865, at Dubuque, Ia., for the old Ill& Miss. Telegraph Co., which was later merged into the Western Union Telegraph Co.; then became a telegraph operator, and advanced to better positions; became mgr. at McGregor, Ia., 1875, and later chief operator at the Chicago office; then asst. supt. Western Union Telegraph Co. until 1909, when he became supt. of 1st district; since Aug. 1910, division supt. of traffic. Was pres. Illinois District Telegraph Co., 1898-1902. Capt. of Signal Corps of I.N.G.; Catholic; Memb. Knights of Columbus. Clubs: Union League, Casino of Edgewater. Recreations: fond of theatre, social diversions. Residence: 4816 Kenmore Av. Office: 803, 111 W. Jackson Boul.
