In 1851 the land known as Cass County received its name from Lewis Cass, U S Senator from Michigan, from trails left by the Potawatomie Indians. The Mormons in 1846 had begun their incredible trek across the prairie and about twenty families had settled on the Nishnabotna River and Indian Creek west of the present graveled road, in sections 9 and 10 of Cass Township. In 1853 a Post office was established, the mail hauled once a week from Council Bluffs to Indiantown in Section 9. The first settler came in 1850 to Indiantown and made the first land entry. I imagine they crossed Indian Creek, but will have to go to the library and check the plat map, for sure. Who was your ancestor, perhaps there is something written about him? Lewis Iowa, the town established after Indiantown, is having their sesquecentenniel, and have printed a small book on the area. Later....
