In Response To: where was Montana in Boone County? (Karen McAndrew)

When Boone County was organized in 1849, there were about 400 inhabitants. Rivals for the county seat Boonsboro(West Boone)and Boone Station were incorporated in the 1860s. Boonsboro was the original county seat. Boone Station changed its name to Montana, then to Boone. These two towns are now merged into the modern city of Boone, which became the county seat in 1887.
