where was Montana in Boone County?

I am researching Christopher Deering who died in Boone, Boone County in Nov 1909. He is buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery; as is his 2nd wife, Mary Jordan. Christopher and Mary Jordan were married in Boone in May of 1890.
Christopher shows up in the 1880 census for Boone County with a 1st wife. Her name is listed as Conneferd. Christopher shows up in the 1870 census for Boone County with his 1st wife listed as Mary C. The 1880 census has them in the first ward of Boone, Boone County. The 1870 census has them in Montana, Boone County.
Where was Montana?
I have been trying to find a death and burial for Christopher's 1st wife and I am hoping that knowing where Montana was located may be of some use.
