Nicholas was approximately in 1856 and I've also seen that he was born in 1854. He was born in Luxembourg, Germany. Father was John H. Hess and mother Tresa Phillips. Nicholas's wife was Mary Kies and she was born in Dec. 19, 1858 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. They had seven kids and their names are: Dora Hess, Mathias Hess, Jacob James Hess (my great, great grandpa), Nicholas Hess, Jr., Francis Hess, Irene Agnes Hess, and Loretta Hess. I don't remember if I said before, but Nicholas and his 2 brothers were stoe aways to America. One became a banker in Carol county, Iowa and the other a farmer in eastern Iowa.
