In Response To: Re: Ruth Leavitt Stark McCann Hallier (Chrystal k Mcalister)

You are most welcome. In doing a little more poking, why in heavens name did she still carry the name Hellyer instead of McCann? I went to school with some McCanns. Maybe Paul might be a father in law of one of my classmate?

Is your father in law originally a Hellyer or McCann?

Ruth's brother Mark seems to have been baseborn since he carried his mothers surname. He was born in Oct and the 1900 census was done in June.

It is so sad about such abbreviated lives. John Meharry died between 1896 and before 1900. Poor Mark age 42 and poor Ruth at age 41. At least Ruth's sister Muriel made it to 88yo.

Thanks for allowing me in your family search. I did see where Catherine "Kate" Bennington Meharry died in Waterloo 18 Feb 1918 but she was buried in Oelwein and I can't find her or John in any records there.
