Alma Hall Maring was born in Belmont County, Ohio, most likely in Richland Township. She was the eldest daughter of William and Nancy B. (Dillon) Hall. She was born June 4, 1822. She married Samuel Maring in Belmont County, Ohio on April 21, 1842. She most likely left Ohio with her husband's family circa 1851. They were in Van Buren County for a short time, then moved to Appanoose County, Caldwell Township, where she died on May 11, 1856, just days after the birth of her youngest son, James Madison Maring. Catherine Jane Maring, most likely named for Alma's sister, Catherine Jane Hall, and/or her maternal grandmother, Catherine (Colley) Dillon, was her second youngest child. Alma is buried at HISM Cemetery (aka Monroe Cemetery) in Exline, Iowa, Appanoose County. I believe this cemetery is close to Exline Cemetery, but I am unsure about the exact location. She is buried next to two of her half-brothers, Franklin Pierce and James Buchanon Hall. If anyone is interested in census information, Alma's siblings and Hall ancestry, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at canoecarver@aol.com.
