Which Des Moines?

OLSON, SUNDEEN

I'm finding quite a number of snips from the wonderful Centerville newspaper archive, http://centerville.advantage-preservation.com/search/site. Often I see "Des Moines" mentioned (xx went to Des Moines to visit, yy from Des Moines is visiting). Now, at first I assumed they were talking about Des Moines the capital. But recently I've learned about the Sundeen family in southeastern Iowa, which is tightly related to the Stina Olson clan, Mrs. Carolina Sundeen being her younger sister. They lived in Des Moines Twp., near New Boston - Keokuk area, southeastern Iowa.

Is there any good way to guess which Des Moines is meant in this newspaper archive?

Thanks for any insight on this. I'm primarily concerned with about 1889-1930,

Best, Martha Schecter Forsyth
