If you think he never got out of the hospital and died there you can get a death certificate here:

I don't know how precise you need to be on a date of death. Maybe you can call them and find out. Mt. Pleasant is in Henry County.

You might contact these folks and see if they have any advice. I suspect yours is not the only case like this.
