I am related to a James Davis that shows up here in Polk county iowa as soon as the county opens in 1846 and is listed on the first census. he bought 100 acres around 1851 and died in 1851. I only know that the census says he was born in Ohio. our family tradition says Kentucky. I do not know if he came to this state with Family or alone. he was in his thirties when he Married my ggggMother. so I have reason to believe he was possibly married before maybey with children and could have lived in this state around van buren as that is where his wife Mary Freel came from. I have been pointed twards this Silas and Isacc before. Do you know any of thier children that would have been named James possible? he was born december 11 1815
