John Hanley and Susan O'Laughlin died in a fire?

I am researching the family of John Hanley and Susan O'Laughlin Hanley. John b 1854 died in 1897 and Susan b 1864 died in 1898. The family story is that they were killed in a fire, we are not sure if that is true. John and Susan are buried at St Johns West Ridge Allamakee County Iowa. The children would have been
Kathryn " Katie" Hanley Ward b 1885 wife of Mike Ward, Daniel Hanley b 1886, Mary Hanley b 1888, Terrence Hanley b 1890 married Zeta surname unknown. Gertrude b 1892, James b 1894 married Elen Olaff. Daniel Hanley is listed in 1900 as working for Kathryn Byrnes in Hanover Iowa as a servant age 14. The rest of the Hanley chldren are listed as orphans in the Dubuque orphanage.Any knowledge of this family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
