William Elmer Marshall, Jr. was born Jan. 12, 1902 to William (Sr.) and Rose Ann Ash Marshall. He died Oct. 4, 1944 and is buried in Highland Cemetery, Mystic, IA. He is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

GySgt. Marshall served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Harold Leon Marvin was born Nov. 7, 1918 to Clarence and Grace Blue Marvin. He died May 19, 1948 and is buried in Hilltown Cemetery, Moulton, IA.

MSgt. Marvin served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II.

Edward Eugene Massa was born Jan. 27, 1921 to Dominick and Anna Massa. He died Oct. 11, 1943 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 1, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Petty Officer Massa served in World War Ii with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Wahoo (SS-238) which was sunk by a combination of air attack and depth charging in La Perouse Strait, Northern Japan. He was MIA/FOD/KIA and awarded the Purple Heart.

Austin Franklin McCoy was born July 2, 1905 to John Franklin and Clemma Dora Cooper McCoy. He died May 2, 1972 and is buried in Mount Ararat Cemetery, Udell, IA.

Charles Eugene McElderry was born July 12, 1923 to Eugene P. and Ila Massingill McElderry. He died Aug. 2, 1943 and is buried in Sharon Chapel Cemetery, Centerville, IA.

Robert Kenneth “Mick” McGuire was born May 27, 1924 to Robert A. and Mary E. Bronson McGuire. He died Dec. 21, 2020 and is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, Osceola, IA. Robert served in World War II with the U.S. Army, helping liberate Europe from Nazi Germany. He was a combat engineer with the 254th Engineer Combat Battalion that was attached to the 1st Army during the D-Day invasion of France on June 6, 1944. As a soldier during the invasion, Robert participated in the amphibious landing where the 254th cleared mines and booby traps, repaired damaged roads and built bridges. They laid the foundation for the Allied advance into Nazi occupied Europe. 

Robert also saw combat action in the Ardennes-Alsace offensive also known as the Battle of the Bulge. The 254th eventually became attached to the Third Army under Gen. George Patton. For his gallantry during these battles, Robert was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation with Streamer Embroidered “Belgium” and the French Croix De Guerre with Silver Streamer Embroidered “Belgium” and many war related decorations. The 254th was instrumental in clearing the way for the Allied advance into Germany by building pontoon bridges across the Rhine. Robert was part of the task force that liberated Buchenwald, a Nazi concentration camp located on German soil. Robert continued his service to his fellow soldiers by participating in many military funerals through the years.

James Robert (Bob) Mickels was born Nov. 14, 1905 to Henry Robert and Martha Frances Baugher Mickels. He died Nov. 18, 1948 and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Centerville, IA.

Sgt. Mickels served in World War II with the U.S. Army.

Joseph Francis Morris was born Jan. 28, 1911 to William and Pauline Jackovich Morris. He died Dec. 26, 1943 and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Centerville, IA. 

Pvt. Morris served with the U.S. Marine Corps 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division in World War II and was KIA at Cape Gloucester, New Britain.
